Modeling Pitch Accent Curves

نویسنده

چکیده

Segmental factors can cause large temporal changes in local pitch contours associated with accented syllables (“accent curves”), but these changes are often not phonologically or perceptually significant. Yet, other factors can cause temporal changes that are smaller but nevertheless significant. We propose a model according to which accent curves are (phonologically, perceptually) equivalent when they are generated from the same accent curve template using a shared family of time warp functions. The model is shown to provide a detailed and accurate account of alignment of accent curves over a wide range of segmental

Modeling of Vocal Styles Using Portable Features and Placement Rules

This paper presents a mathematical description of style in speech and singing. These styles are represented as a set of portable prosodic features along with a set of rules to choose where the features are to be applied. Speakers and singers make creative choices to express their personal style, which may involve specific accent shapes, phrase curves, or (similarly) musical embellishment. There...

Context in Multi-lingual Tone and P

Tone and intonation play a crucial role across many languages. However, the use and structure of tone varies widely, ranging from lexical tone which determines word identity to pitch accent signalling information status. In this paper, we employ a uniform representation of acoustic features for recognition of both Mandarin tone and English pitch accent. The representation captures both local to...

تکیه در زبان فارسی

Abstract: This research has been carried out in the framework of Auto segmental-metrical (AM) phonology to study the stress in Persian. Two types of abstract and concrete prominences were distinguished in which the first one refers to the stress and the second one refers to the pitch accent. Stress is assumed to be a lexical property of the lexemes, but pitch accent is assumed to be an intonati...

Word Informativeness and Automatic Pitch Accent Modeling

In intonational phonology and speech synthesis research, it has been suggested that the relative informativeness of a word can be used to predict pitch prominence. The more information conveyed by a word, the more likely it will be accented. But there are others who express doubts about such a correlation. In this paper, we provide some empirical evidence to support the existence of such a corr...

Estimating phrase curves in the general superpositional intonation model

Superpositional intonation models posit that the pitch contour, , can be quasi-additively decomposed into component curves such as phrase curves, accent curves, and segmental perturbation curves. Currently, these component curves can only be estimated if one assumes a specific superpositional model, such as the Fujisaki model. A method is proposed for estimating phrase curves that is model-inde...
